Hatch Magazine 2016 Fly Fishing Photo Contest

Wind River Gold

Goldens are hands down the most finicky trout I've ever fished for. Catching one of these beautiful fish is challenge in several ways. Just reaching the waters that these fish inhabit can take multiple days of backpacking in steep, rugged country. The lakes in the wind river range that support golden trout are usually over 10,000 feet in elevation and miles away from the nearest trailhead. On top of that, an angler can spend hours presenting flies to golden trout without a single hit as these fish are very picky. While catching a golden trout is a difficult thing to do, the reward of landing the prettiest colored trout is incredible.
