For years, Redington has been offering some of the most attractively priced fully machined aluminum reels on the market. The Washington-based brand has had a number of previous successes in this arena, most recently with multiple iterations of its well-loved RISE reels and its big game-stopping GRANDE series.
Its latest offering, the all-new ACE fly reels, seems to be the successor to the aforementioned, do-it-all RISE series — promising a host of improvements over its predecessor.
The most obvious feature of the new ACE series is its unique lattice structured spool design, which Redington is calling an "industry first spool geometry." According to Redington, this new geometry offers increases in spool and frame rigidity while decreasing the number of potential stress failure points and also allowing for quicker line drying.
Overall, the driving force behind the design of the new Redington ACE seems to be improved durability, and not only in the reel's frame. Redington says it has redesigned the carbon-fiber drag system in the ACE to provide a longer lifespan and more torque. Even the reel's clicker, says Redington, has been updated to last longer than those found on previous models.
With models ranging from 3/4 weight all the way up to a 9/10 weight, the new ACE series includes variants for everyone from creek fisherman to steelhead and salmon anglers.
The Redington ACE fly reels come with lifetime warranty and is available immediately from authorized Redington dealers. MSRP $239-$269.
